Types of Passports
Regular / Ordinary Passport (navy blue cover) is issued to ordinary citizens for overseas travel, such as for vacation, study or business trips (36 or 60 pages). It is a “Type P” passport, where P stands for personal. It is valid for 10 years from the date of issue.
Official Passport (grey / white cover) is issued to individuals representing the Indian government on official business. It is issued to designated Non-Gazetted Government servants or any person specifically authorized by the Government deputed abroad on government business. It is a “Type S” passport, S standing for service.
Diplomatic Passport (maroon cover) is issued to Indian diplomats, top ranking government officials, statutory authorities or any person specifically authorized by the government.
Basic documents required for passport
1. Birth certificate/school leaving certificate
2. Photo ID proof like Aadhaar Card/driving license/election card / PAN
3. Residential proofs like light/tax/telephone bills
4. Marriage certificate (if married)
